Ford’s Model T was the world’s best-selling car until 1972. Between 1908 and 1927, 15 million units were built in the United States. Today, about one percent of all cars built still exist. On 01.10.1908 the first vehicle was built. From 1914, the Model T was celebrated as the world’s first car produced on an assembly line. With this change in production Ford reduced the selling price from $ 850 to $ 370 (today € 8,460). An affordable car for everyone was born. Car colour between 1915 and 1925 was exclusively black. (“You can have the car in any colour, as long as it is black” is what Henry Ford is said to have said).
On peak days up to 9,000 units of this car were produced. In 1921, the Model T’s market share of worldwide automobile production was 57 percent.
On December 18, 1999, the Model T was named “Car of the Century” by a jury of 133 automotive journalists and experts, leaving some 700 candidates behind. The history of car rental and the Hertz brand began with such a vehicle in 1918.
